Passport to the Arts Offerings for Families with Children, Teens,
and Adults with Disabilities
Spring 2021

 

 

NEW YORK (January 28, 2021) — Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announces its Passport to the Arts Spring 2021 season, with a variety of classes, performances, and bonus content offered virtually, designed for children, teens, and adults with disabilities and their families.

 

Passport to the Arts provides a welcoming, accessible, and affordable introduction to the performing arts at Lincoln Center at no cost.

Offerings include programs with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

 

Spring 2021 Season Highlights Include:

  • Exploration of a story in shadow led by Animator and Multimedia Artist Miwa Matreyek
  • Interactive workshop with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts following the adventures of choreographer Isadora Duncan, through the archived postcards of her travels
  • Interactive chamber music concert with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
  • Adapted dance workshop to learn excerpts of Mark Morris's beloved dance L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato with Mark Morris Dance Company

 

All programs are inclusively designed especially for families with children, teens, or adults with disabilities. Families will receive pre-visit materials, including social narratives, photos, and links before each program. All programs take place via Zoom.

In addition, as part of Lincoln Center’s commitment to serving audiences of all abilities, supplemental materials for those with disabilities are available at Passport at Home as companion offerings to many of the works of art featured on Lincoln Center at Home.

Music From The Sole

Saturday, February 6 at 11am (recommended for ages 5-12)

Join us for an interactive tap dance workshop featuring performances and activities led by artists from Music From The Sole. A New York City-based tap dance company and live music ensemble, the group merges Afro-Brazilian rhythms and music with the great American tap tradition.

 

WeBop “Jazz Heroes”: A Four-Week Series with Jazz at Lincoln Center

Sundays, February 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 11am (ages 6-9)

During this interactive, small group program, you and your child will be immersed in an authentic jazz experience led by musicians. Learn about famous jazz pioneers, including Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington, by dancing to the swing rhythm, improvising on homemade instruments, and more! By registering, your family is committing to participating in all four sessions.

 

World in Shadow

Tuesday, February 16 at 1pm (recommended for ages 7 and up)

A family-friendly, hands-on workshop led by Animator and Multimedia Artist Miwa Matreyek. Join Miwa as she leads you through a workshop to create a whole new world out of things you can find around the house! After the workshop, Miwa will do a short demonstration of a story in shadow to help spark more creative ideas for you to try at home.

 

Adapted Dance Workshop with Mark Morris Dance Company

Wednesday, March 10 at 4pm (recommended for ages 6-10)

Wednesday, March 10 at 5:30pm (recommended for ages 11 and up)

Learn excerpts of Mark Morris's beloved L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato in a dance workshop, led by a Mark Morris Dance Group company member.

 

Meet a Jazz Hero: Louis Armstrong with Jazz at Lincoln Center’s WeBop
Friday, March 12 at 4:30pm (ages 10-13)

Families explore the works of jazz legend Louis Armstrong in an interactive workshop led by musicians. Participants dance to the swing rhythm, sing the blues, and more.

 

The Adventures of Isadora Duncan with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and CO/LAB Theater Group

Saturday, March 20 at 11am (recommended for ages 5-12)

Saturday, March 20 at 1pm (recommended for teens and young adults)

Lincoln Center, CO/LAB Theater Group, and the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts join for an interactive workshop following Isadora Duncan's journeys through the archived postcards of her travels. Duncan's choreography was inspired by the natural elements and architecture of the places she visited.

 

Adapted Dance Workshop with American Ballet Theatre

Thursday, April 8 at 4pm (recommended for ages 5-15)

American Ballet Theatre teaching artists lead a dance workshop in which participants explore the characters and choreography from ABT’s popular ballet Don Quixote.

 

Meet a Jazz Hero: Louis Armstrong with Jazz at Lincoln Center’s WeBop
Sunday, April 11 at 11am (ages 2-5)

Rosina’s Ruse with the Metropolitan Opera Guild

Saturday, April 10 at 11am (recommended for ages 7-12)

Thursday, April 15 at 5:30pm (teens and adults)

Join Metropolitan Opera Guild teaching artists in a fun and interactive journey through the elements of opera! Using the adventures of Rosina in The Barber of Seville, families will explore the characters, emotions, and music of Rossini’s classic opera.

 

Adapted Dance Workshop with New York City Ballet
Wednesday, April 14 at 6:30pm (recommended for teens and adults)
Saturday, April 17 at 11am (ages 5-12)

Dance with the artists of New York City Ballet! Participants are guided in a warm-up and learn choreography inspired by some of NYCB’s most beloved repertory. Comfortable clothes that you can move and stretch in are recommended.

 

Playful Pieces with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center

Sunday, April 18 at 11:30am (recommended for ages 3-6)

Explore the world of chamber music, curated for young learners. This interactive concert includes live music and activities led by educators and musicians, Rami Vamos and Nurit Pacht.

 

Up & Away with Trusty Sidekick

Saturday, April 24 at 11am (recommended for ages 5-12)

Saturday, April 24 at 1pm (recommended for teens and young adults)

Join a multisensory journey through the sky in virtual hot air balloons. Activate your imagination to explore the wonder of the world above the clouds in this multisensory workshop with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company.

 

Campfire with Trusty Sidekick

Sunday, April 25 at 11am (recommended for ages 5-12)

Sunday, April 25 at 1pm (recommended for teens and young adults)

Trusty Sidekick Theater Company invites you to gather around the virtual campfire. Together we’ll bring the great outdoors inside, gaze through our binoculars, look for shooting stars, and entertain wildlife with a good story. This intimate, multisensory workshop will conjure the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of a vibrant forest.

 

Create Melodies with the New York Philharmonic

Thursday, April 29 at 4pm (recommended for ages 8-15)

Join New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist Jacinta Clusellas, accompanied by Philharmonic violist Leah Ferguson, for a musical workshop in which children explore and create their own melodies.

 

Jazz at Lincoln Center: Lessons from Louis Armstrong

Wednesday, May 12 at 4pm (recommended for ages 5 and up)

In this unique, interactive, jazz concert, explore the life of legendary musician Louis Armstrong and the multiculturalism surrounding the birth of jazz in New Orleans. Led by a diverse cast of renowned jazz musicians assembled by Jazz at Lincoln Center.

 

Sonia De Los Santos

Saturday, May 15 at 1pm (recommended for ages 5-12)

Join musical artist Sonia De Los Santos for an interactive concert experience, as she sings in English and Spanish. Playing guitar and jarana, Sonia spreads joyful messages that encourage community music-making and build bridges across cultures.
