LINCOLN CENTER OPENS KEY PUBLIC SPACES AND LAUNCHES SUMMER AT LINCOLN CENTER FRIDAY, MAY 21 FROM 12-3PM

FREE GELATO, LEMONADE, AND FREE PERFORMANCE TICKETS GIVEN AWAY TO THE COMMUNITY

May 19, 2010, New York, NY? Lincoln Center opens a number of significant public spaces around the Lincoln Center campus, the latest initiatives to launch as part of the $1.2 billion transformation that began in 2006 and is scheduled to be completed in late 2011/early 2012. Lincoln Center will open its improved Grand Stair, a more dramatic and functional threshold to its front door, the primary entryway along Columbus Avenue featuring informational LED text as part of Lincoln Center’s innovative 16-channel InfoScape; the new Benenson Grove, which highlights the 62nd St. access point for the many visitors who arrive at Lincoln Center from the south; and Jaffe Drive/Toll Porte-cochère, the drop-off roadway that will provide a convenient and weatherproof location for patron drop-offs and departures.

Lincoln Center’s critically acclaimed redevelopment series of projects, led by the architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro with FXFOWLE and Beyer Blinder Belle, as well as Tod Williams Billie Tsien, provides state-of-the-art performance and support facilities; develops public spaces in a way that enlivens the campus and encourages public use; creates a heightened sense of welcome; improves visitor orientation and accessibility; and maximizes efficiency for all 12 resident organizations.

In celebration of these new public spaces, Lincoln Center will hold a party for the community on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 12-3pm. Free tickets will be given every hour for Summer at Lincoln Center events, and Arpeggio Outdoors by Restaurant Associates will be providing FREE gelato and lemonade near the Illumination Lawn, a dynamic gathering space that could be an ideal setting for an outdoor urban picnic.
