Thirty teenage New York City poets to participate in four events presented in partnership with

Urban Word NYC and NYC Votes

Poet-Linc, the poetry slam series in support of literacy and civic engagement in New York City, will return for its second season at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:30 pm with the first round of semi-final competition. Presented in partnership with Urban Word NYC and NYC Votes, a division of the New York City Campaign Finance Board, the four nights of Poet-Linc give talented teenage poets from the five boroughs an opportunity to perform their poetry and compete for the title of Youth Poetry Laureate of New York City.  Of the more than 150 entries submitted for the competition, thirty were selected to attend a month of workshops and debut their poetry on the Lincoln Center stage.

Poets Darian Dauchan and Shanelle Gabriel will host three rounds of competition at 6:30 pm on March 12, 19, and 26. These FREE events will also include readings by professional guest poets including NYC Poet Laureate Ramya Ramana, Kristina Gramlich, and Latasha N. Nevada Diggs. The participants will be judged by appointed members of the audience and three official judges.

The top three poets from each round will compete for the title of Poet-Linc Grand Slam Champion at the final championship round, which takes place on April 10 at 7:30 pm and will be part of the Atrium’s popular Target® Free Thursdays series.  The first place winner will receive an iPad; the second place winner, a Kindle Fire; and third place winner, a Kindle. Runners up will receive gift cards to Barnes & Noble.

The Poet-Linc Grand Slam Champion will secure a place in the New York City Youth Poet Laureate program for 2014.

All participants will be able to contribute poems to Poet-Linc: Poetry Slam Volume II, a second edition of the successful anthology of Poet-Linc poetry from Black Dog Publishing.

All Poet-Linc presentations are FREE to the public and take place at the

David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets.
