Billy Porter

Tony and Grammy Award-winner Billy Porter is a singer, composer, actor, playwright, and director. A native of Pittsburgh, Porter first emerged as a gospel singer before transitioning to theater. After making his Broadway debut in the original company of Miss Saigon in 1991, starring as the Teen Angel in the 1994 revival of Grease and performing in Smokey Joe’s Café, Porter took a self-imposed 13-year break from Broadway, making his triumphant return in the role of a lifetime as ‘Lola’ in the smash hit Kinky Boots, a role he still plays eight times a week at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Along the way, Porter recorded three solo albums and wrote an autobiographical play, While I Yet Live, that is currently in production at Primary Stages in New York. His latest solo CD, Billy’s Back on Broadway, brings his prodigious talents to the great American songbook.
