Judy Kuhn Sings Richard Rodgers/Mary Rodgers/Mary Guettel/Adam Guettel

Judy Kuhn brings a wealth of Broadway experience (She Loves Me, Chess, The Mystery of Edwin Drood), three Tony nominations, and a captivating voice to this special evening. Most recently in Kander & Ebb’s The Visit, Kuhn will perform an evening of the music of Richard Rodgers’ musical dynasty. Winner of every award in the entertainment industry – the Grammy, the Emmy, the Oscar, the Tony, as well as the Pulitzer ? Richard Rodgers is the composer of more than 900 songs and 43 Broadway musicals. His collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II marked the beginning of the most successful partnership in American musical theater, starting with Oklahoma! in 1943 and including Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and many others. His daughter, Mary Rodgers Guettel, went into “the family business” and became a composer as well, writing the Tony-nominated musical Once Upon a Mattress in 1959, as well as Working, The Madwoman of Central Park West, and others. Her son, Adam Guettel, took up music composition while in his teens and has written film scores, pop songs, and musical theater pieces, and no less an authority than Stephen Sondheim has referred to Guettel’s work as “dazzling.” His musical The Light in the Piazza won the Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations in 2005.
