Shovels & Rope

Performing music that is “darkly humorous and rollicking” (Wall Street Journal), Shovels & Rope is both the name of the group and the title of the first album by the husband & wife duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent. Each of them had solo careers and released solo albums before meeting in 2008 and recording Shovels & Rope. They married in 2009 and continued their solo careers before deciding to join up permanently and release O’ Be Joyful (2012), which brought them both critical and commercial success. The album yielded the hit single, Birmingham, which won “Song of the Year” at the Americana Music Awards in Nashville in 2013, when they also won “Best Emerging Artist.” Their latest CD, Swimmin’ Time, came out in August 2014 and features their signature country-punk/rock blend, coupled with the collision of the duo’s voices, that has been described as “earthly magic.”

Tickets start at $35
